Anchorage Town Hall Series

A listening project bringing our community together in 2026.

About Listen Anchorage

The idea is simple but powerful: six independent town halls across Anchorage’s assembly districts April–May 2026. Listen Anchorage is a community-led forum—free of special-interest funding—where we listen first, so shared priorities can rise to the top.

How the Town Halls Work

Each event is live (in person) and open to all Anchorage residents. A local district emcee leads the questions, while open-mic comments and live, in-room polling make the room’s views visible on screen. Afterward, the full data will be transparent and accessible to the community and stakeholders.

Key Principles

👂Listening first.
No speeches or talking points—just participants’ voices, with open-mic comments and live polling that reveal the room’s perspective in real time.

💰🚫 Neutral and independent.
All volunteer, no fundraising, no outside money—from parties, unions, candidates, or special interests—so the forum stays neutral and community-led.

🔍Transparent.
Results are visible live on screen at each event, and the full data will be available afterward—open to residents, candidates, elected officials, and other stakeholders to review.

A model for others.
Pilot a civic engagement framework that any city can adopt and make their own.

Why do we need Listen Anchorage now?

Many of us feel big decisions happen without us. Some of us vote, write letters, or post online—but those efforts don’t always leave us feeling heard or empowered. Some have opted out entirely. That sense of disempowerment is wearing on our city. It quiets good ideas, hardens assumptions, and cultivates division and polarization.

Listen Anchorage is a direct response to recent town halls that prioritized talking at audiences instead of listening. Anchorage deserves civic spaces that listen first. We need our government, candidates, institutions, and special-interest groups—to listen better and help the community find common ground instead of fostering division.

This is a civic experiment: Host a public forum; let residents speak; show results live and share them in full—to see if transparency builds trust and reveals common ground. Could it give Anchorage a stronger sense of agency and shared power? If you’ve ever felt like your perspective doesn’t count, these rooms are for you—add your name to the invite list.
